The California Highway Patrol in Buellton reported that a Solvang man was killed, and his three passengers were hurt in a single-vehicle collision in Santa Ynez Valley on Monday night, September 12, 2022.
The crash occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Ballard Canyon Road.
According to the CHP, 19-year-old Roberto G. Jr. was taken to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital, where he later passed away from his wounds after being freed from the car along with his three passengers.
All of his passengers were seriously injured in the collision.
They were identified as Buellton residents Georgia J., 18, Emely S., 18, and Solvang resident Viviana F., 19, respectively.
The CHP reported that Garcia failed to navigate a curve north of Roble Blanco Road while operating a 2005 BMW M3.
The BMW veered off the east side of the road, struck a tree and a fence, and then turned onto its roof.
Although the crash is still under investigation, the CHP said it seems unlikely that drugs or alcohol played a role.
Fatal Car Crash Statistics
Thousands of people are killed in single-vehicle accidents in California every year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that one-vehicle accidents account for roughly 62% of fatal collisions on California’s roadways. Driving in California requires constant vigilance due to the presence of numerous potential dangers.
There are many potential contributors to single-vehicle accidents. Reckless driving on a slippery road, such as increasing your speed or making a sharp turn, can lead to an off-road collision or a runaway car. A large branch or other pieces of truck-load debris could have washed up on the roadside. In addition, this could make driving conditions even worse.
Even if another driver’s negligence caused the single-vehicle accident, your ability to recover damages may be severely constrained by your insurance policy’s coverage plan.
