The collision transpired around 12:30 p.m. northbound on Interstate 5 south of Maxwell.

Unknown factors caused this driver to veer west, cross the center divide, and enter the southbound lanes of traffic before colliding with Hector Yerbal Hernandez, 40, of Modesto, who was operating a 2019 Kenworth Tractor Trailer Combo.

According to the press release, Yerbal Hernandez lost control of his car after the collision but regained it as it came to rest in the center divider.

According to the press release, Kaifeng Xhang, 30, of Houston, was in the adjacent lane of southbound traffic at the time of the collision.

He applied his brakes aggressively but could not avoid hitting the unidentified driver’s vehicle.

Xhang struck the car and stopped it in the middle of the road.

According to CHP officials, I-5 was closed for about two hours and twenty minutes due to the collision.
