[09-15-2022] Suspected DUI Runs Red Light, Struck Chico Police AutomobileThe Chico Police Emergency Vehicle, a 2019 Chevrolet, was hit by a suspected DUI motorist who police say blew a red light early Thursday morning, September 15, 2022.

According to the CHP, the accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. at the crossroads of SR-32.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), 25-year-old Sesar Diaz-Ruvalcaba was driving a 2013 Nissan Sentra when he ran a red light into an intersection, colliding with 24-year-old Juan Valencia, who was driving westbound in his patrol car through a green light.

Diaz-Ruvalcaba’s Nissan failed to stop at the red light and drove into the intersection, crashing into Valencia’s Chevrolet.

CHP said in a press release that the incident resulted in minor injuries to the Chevrolet driver and perhaps minor injuries to the Nissan driver.

Diaz-Ruvalcaba was arrested for suspicion of felony DUI causing injury.
