According to authorities, a motorcyclist crashed into a barrier, ended up on the tracks, and was struck and killed by a train in Oakland Friday, September 16, 2022.
According to the authorities, the crash occurred at 4:00 p.m. at 24th Street and Northgate Avenue.
Officials from BART said that the person was on the tracks when the train came. Around 4:20 p.m., the event was first talked about on social media.
Officials from BART said that police and fire departments and “frontline” staff from BART helped. Because of this, service between the MacArthur, West Oakland, and Lake Merritt stations was cut short.
In the direction of Antioch, Berryessa, Richmond, and San Francisco, train service had stopped in Downtown Oakland.
The Oakland Police Department has confirmed that they are in charge of the investigation.
Fatal Motorcycle Crash Accident Statistics
There are a lot of motorcycle accidents in Alameda County. In 2016, 68 people in the county died in motorcycle accidents. The number is getting bigger. Most of these accidents involve just one car and one or more motorcyclists. In 2015, only six people died. Eight of the nine deaths were caused by head-on collisions. Most accidents happen during the week between 3 and 6 p.m.
One worry that comes from these numbers is that car and truck drivers might not be able to see motorcyclists as well as they can see car and truck drivers. This can make it hard for drivers to see motorcyclists, which often causes a crash that kills someone.
Many motorcyclists who die in accidents are not wearing helmets. This is likely because California does not have a law that says everyone must wear a helmet. This means that riders have a high chance of getting serious head injuries in a crash if they do not wear a helmet.
When riding a motorcycle, drivers can do some things to stay safe:
- Wear a helmet at all times.
- When you change lanes or turn, ensure other drivers see you and use their turn signals.
- Drive carefully and pay attention to what’s going on around you.
- Never drink and drive.
Motorcycles are much smaller than cars, so it’s easy for drivers to miss them. If you’re drunk, you’re more likely to get into an accident that hurts or kills you or someone else.
