Rollover Accident Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rollover accidents are one of the leading causes of death in motor vehicle accidents. The rollover rate of SUVs in fatal collisions was 21.2% in 2019. This rate exceeds the rollover rates in deadly collisions involving all other classes of common motor vehicles. Although they account for only about two percent of all crashes, they account for more than a quarter of all fatalities.

Several factors contribute to the high rate of fatalities in rollover accidents. First, the occupants are often ejected from the vehicle during a rollover, which can lead to serious injuries or even death.

Second, rollover accidents often involve multiple vehicles, increasing the risk of collision-related injuries. Finally, the chances of survival are significantly reduced if the car catches fire or is submerged in water. For these reasons, it is important to exercise caution when driving on roads with a high risk of rollover accidents.
