[09-16-2022] Multiple Children Injured After Two-Vehicle Collision on Highway OneAccording to the California Highway Patrol, a two-vehicle collision resulted in multiple children being hospitalized in Lompoc Friday, September 16, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol says the collision transpired just before 9:30 a.m.on Highway 1 between Vandenberg Space Force Base and Lompoc, a couple of miles south of the base near Santa Lucia Road.

Sgt. Charmaine Fajardo of the California Highway Patrol said a van was stopped on Highway 1 at Santa Lucia going east.

On Highway 1, another car went south in the number one lane. The silver van pulled out in front of that car, which then hit the van on the left side.

Fajardo says that one of the children in the van was thrown out of the car when it hit the vehicle and taken by helicopter to a hospital nearby. At this time, we don’t know how they are.

The CHP also says that some of the kids in the van were the driver’s children but that the mothers of some of the other kids came to the scene of the accident after the crash.

The rest of the hurt people were taken by ambulance to the hospital. It is thought that all the kids in the van were old enough to ride in car seats.

Drugs and alcohol are also not thought to have had anything to do with it. The accident is still being looked into.
