Head-On Accident Statistics

All traffic accidents are frightening, but getting hit head-on by another vehicle is very scary. A head-on collision is a type of car accident that occurs when the front ends of two vehicles collide. Head-on accidents are often very serious, as they can cause significant damage to the cars and serious injuries to the occupants. In some cases, head-on accidents can even be fatal.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, around 5,000 head-on collisions occurred in the United States in 2018. Head-on collisions are more common in rural areas, accounting for 13% of all rural deaths.

Head-on accidents often occur when one driver veers into oncoming traffic due to distraction or intoxication. They can also happen if one driver attempts to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. Head-on collisions are typically much more serious than rear-end or side-impact crashes, so it is important to exercise caution while driving and be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you are involved in a head-on collision, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible, even if you do not think you have been injured. Internal injuries may not be immediately noticeable but can become life-threatening.
