According to the Corning Police, they were called to a pedestrian accident involving a 17-year-old boy and a motorcyclist in Corning on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
The crash happened at about 11:32 a.m. in the 600 block of North Street.
When Corning police arrived on the scene, it was discovered that Nickell had been driving eastbound on North Street when he collided with the teenager.
The 71-year-old motorcyclist, Dennis Wayne N., died at the scene. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has notified the deceased’s next of kin.
The teen was taken to a hospital, where his condition was stable. He appears to have a broken ankle and a big cut on the left side of his face.
Besides the teenager crossing the street unsafely, the motorcyclist’s speed also contributed to the accident.
Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Despite recent advances in vehicle safety, pedestrian accidents remain a serious problem. Pedestrian accidents account for more than 12 percent of all traffic fatalities in the United States.
Pedestrians are more likely to be injured in an accident than occupants of an automobile and are more likely to suffer serious or fatal injuries. Many factors contribute to pedestrian accidents, including distracted driving, poor visibility, and aggressive driving.
It is important to be aware of the risks and take steps to avoid pedestrian accidents:
Pedestrians should always be cautious when crossing the street and be visible to drivers.
Drivers should pay attention to their surroundings and yield to pedestrians whenever possible.
By taking these simple precautions, we can help make our streets safer for everyone.
