Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision Statistics
A fatal two-vehicle collision is a crash resulting in at least one fatality from both vehicles involved.
These collisions result from one driver’s carelessness or failure to follow traffic laws and regulations. Driver errors may include speeding, driving under the influence (DUI), driving on the wrong side of the road, or failing to yield the right-of-way to other vehicles at intersections.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 10,000 people died in fatal crashes that involved at least one other vehicle in 2016. Drivers need to understand how these collisions happen and how they can avoid them.
One in ten Americans will perish in a car accident before they turn sixty. Serious auto accidents result in more than 30,000 fatalities and 2 million injuries annually.
According to NHTSA, most fatal two-vehicle collisions happen because of a failure by one or both drivers involved in the accident.
Although many factors contribute to these crashes, including road conditions and driver fatigue, they can avoid many with proper instruction and training.
