[09-19-2022] Alameda County CA – Single-Vehicle Collision Kills One Person on Interstate 880 in San Leandro

[09-19-2022] Single-Vehicle Collision Kills One Person on Interstate 880 in San LeandroAccording to the California Highway Patrol, a single-vehicle collision killed at least one person on a freeway exit ramp late Monday, September 19, 2022.

CHP Officer Zachary Hunter said the fatal crash occurred at about 11:53 p.m. on northbound Interstate 880 at the Davis Street exit.

The driver was dead at the scene, so authorities did not know who they were right away. Hunter said he was driving a Porsche Cayenne, which he seemed to lose control of because he didn’t slow down enough at the exit.

Hunter said that the Porsche went off the road and then over the exit ramp into bushes and trees. At the time of the accident, it wasn’t raining.

It wasn’t clear immediately if drugs or alcohol were a factor or how many people were involved.

The CHP is still looking into what caused the crash.

Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

The number of people who lose their lives in collisions involving a single vehicle in California each year is shockingly high.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 62% of all traffic fatalities in the state of California are the result of accidents involving a single vehicle. In California, many things could divert your attention while you’re behind the wheel.

Accidents involving a single vehicle can have a variety of root causes. Accidents and runaways are more likely to occur when driving at high speeds and making sharp turns on slippery roads. The road may be blocked by a large branch or something that fell off the back of a truck.

Even if the single-car accident were caused by something other than your negligence or another driver’s negligence, your insurance policy coverage plan would probably limit your ability to recover damages.

Most people hurt in car accidents can’t return to work or school. However, driving recklessly is still a crime, even if it kills someone else. When someone dies in a car accident because another driver was not paying attention, the driver’s insurance company can be sued for “wrongful death.”

Witnesses at depositions and trials have to testify in front of a big crowd while going through the pain of remembering their past losses and hurts. Legal problems that aren’t solved can harm people’s mental health.

A driver needs to be held responsible for a car accident right away. When carelessness causes many deaths, people need to be held accountable. Even though it can be hard work, wrongful death lawsuits can help the families of people who have lost loved ones. This choice will significantly affect how people drive in the Golden State.
