[09-20-2022] Monterey County, CA – One Person Killed in Fatal Train Accident in Salinas

According to Salinas Police, an Amtrak train struck a person in Salinas on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

The crash occurred around 12:13 p.m. close to Murphy Street.

An individual who was trespassing (on the track) came into contact with Amtrak train 11 as it was traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles.

The 176 passengers and crew on board have not been reportedly injured.

The reason the person was struck by the train at this particular moment is unknown.

The police have not disclosed whether the victim of the accident survived.

According to Union Pacific, the investigation will be handled by Amtrak.

Amtrak is collaborating with regional law enforcement to investigate the crash.

According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), trespassing on railroad property is the main reason for rail-related fatalities in the country, and railroad crossing accidents are the second most common reason.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, a coroner was reportedly called to the scene.
