OHV Accident Statistics

Off-highway vehicle accidents are a danger that all off-road enthusiasts need to be aware of. In fact, according to the National Off-Highway Vehicle Accident Database (NOAHDB), there were an average of 27,000 nonfatal and 1,400 fatal off-highway vehicle accidents per year in the United States between 2007 and 2011.

Statistics show that over two million people were injured in vehicle accidents in 2016 alone, and over 37,000 died from those injuries. This means that every day in America, there are nearly 100 people who are seriously injured or killed by someone else’s negligence on the road.

It is important to note that these statistics are only from 2015—they do not include any of the many accidents that occurred before this date. These numbers will likely continue to increase as more people become familiar with OHVs and their potential uses.

The best way to prevent off-highway vehicle accidents is through education. You should always wear your seat belt when riding an OHV, regardless of whether you’re riding recreationally or working on public lands.
