One person died in a high-speed pedestrian versus vehicle accident on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
At around 9:30 p.m., CHP received reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the Lynwood and Mountain Avenue intersection.
Then revealed that a sizable white pickup truck traveling swiftly was the object that struck the pedestrian.
CHP received additional reports that the truck driver had taken foot bail and left the scene before they arrived on the scene.
First responders discovered a single male lying motionless and unresponsive in the middle of the road when they arrived at the accident scene.
Quickly getting to work on the patient, the paramedics began performing CPR.
As the AMR unit departed the scene, medics could be seen performing active CPR in the back of the vehicle.
According to reports, the truck driver that hit the car came back to the scene after leaving it briefly to turn off the engine and get some paperwork.
No arrests have been made yet, and no additional victims or injuries have been noted.
CHP transferred the incident to SBPD.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
In the United States, fatal pedestrian accidents are a severe issue. 5,376 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents in 2015. These figures are way too high, and drivers and pedestrians need to do something about them.
According to reports, distracted drivers and pedestrians who were not paying attention while crossing the street are to blame for an 8% increase in pedestrian deaths in 2017.
Although urban areas are where most pedestrian accidents happen, these statistics don’t apply to city streets. There have been pedestrian fatalities on highways, interstates, and rural roads.
This indicates that to stop accidents of this nature from occurring in the future, more emphasis should be placed on safety campaigns that raise awareness of these issues.
