Motorcycle Accident Statistics
Motorcycle accidents can be devastating. They often result in serious injuries or even death. And because motorcycles offer little protection to riders, the risk of being involved in an accident is much higher than for other types of vehicles.
There were 474 motorcycle fatalities in 2019 in California. The number of motorcycle fatalities reflected an average 9.4% annual decrease since 2015. 28 deaths were reported from not wearing a helmet, compared to 34 in 2018.
Several things can cause motorcycle accidents. One is rider error. This includes speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, and making sudden lane changes. Another cause is road conditions. Potholes, debris, and wet weather can make it more difficult for motorcycle riders to control their bikes. Finally, mechanical problems can also lead to accidents. This might include issues with the brakes, tires, or suspension system. If you are a motorcycle rider, it’s important to be aware of these risks and take steps to avoid them.
