According to the California Highway Patrol, a woman walking on the freeway was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Presidio Park early Thursday morning, September 22, 2022.
The crash transpired around 12:26 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 8, east of Presidio Park.
A 24-year-old man driving a Subaru sedan hit a woman walking in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 when she was hit by his car.
Officer Jesse Matias of the CHP said that the woman died from her injuries in the crash. The police don’t know whether she was high on drugs or drunk.
Matias says that the driver of the Subaru stayed at the scene of the accident and was treated for minor injuries. Police didn’t think he was high or drunk when the crash happened.
The name of the woman killed has not been public because her family needs to be told.
The cause of the accident is still being looked into.
Pedestrian Accident Statistics
If a car hits a pedestrian instead of a driver, the pedestrian is likely to die or be seriously hurt. In a crash between two vehicles, pedestrians are not protected, so they are likely to get hurt badly.
In the United States, there have been more deaths and injuries of pedestrians. Since a long time ago, pedestrian deaths have been disturbingly high.
Between 2007 and 2016, traffic deaths decreased by 14%, but the number of pedestrian deaths went up by 27%, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).
In the United States in 2017, 5,977 people were killed while walking. Estimates at the end of 2016 said that 88 people died every minute. In 2017, there were 137,000 non-fatal pedestrian injuries that sent people to the hospital.
A recent study found that pedestrians in California are more likely to get hurt or die than in other states. In 2012, 893 pedestrians died, and more than 14,000 were hurt in California.
Pedestrian deaths and injuries are often caused by drivers who don’t give way or slow down too quickly. If you were hurt as a pedestrian and want to go to court, you should hire a lawyer with a lot of experience.

Drivers must be careful around people walking all the time, not just at crosswalks. By law, people on foot always have the right of way when crossing the street. The investigation would determine if the driver who hit the person on the sidewalk broke any laws.
A person can file a “wrongful death” lawsuit against the people they think killed a family member. Damages can be given for many things, depending on what happened.
