Truck Collision Statistics

Truck accidents are a common occurrence on America’s roads. Every year, thousands of truck accidents result in injuries and deaths. 4,842 large trucks were involved in fatal crashes in 2020, down 4% from 2019 and 33% from 2011. Large trucks are categorized as any medium or heavy truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds, excluding buses and motor homes. Vehicles are included, both commercial and noncommercial.

Most truck accidents are caused by driver negligence. Drivers may be tired or distracted, losing control of their vehicles. Other common causes of truck accidents include driver error, speeding, and drunk driving.

When a truck accident occurs, the results can be devastating. Trucks are much larger and heavier than cars, and they can cause significant damage when they collide with other vehicles. In addition to the damage to other cars, truck accidents often cause severe injuries to the people involved. These injuries can include broken bones, neck injuries, and head injuries. In some cases, truck accident victims may suffer from permanent disabilities or even death.

Truck accidents can be hazardous, mainly if the truck carries a heavy load. When a truck jackknifes, the consequences can be catastrophic. Trucks can also lose control while traveling on slippery roads, resulting in a pile-up. Drivers need to be aware of the dangers when traveling around trucks and should take care to give them plenty of room to maneuver.
