It might not seem like a typical injury from a car accident would be a chemical burn. However, some caustic fluids in cars have the potential to leak after a collision and harm anyone inside. After auto accidents, airbags that deploy are a significant factor in chemical burns. When an airbag deploys, it releases a sodium hydroxide aerosol that can burn the skin.

Try to get anything you come into contact with during a car accident off your skin as soon as possible. This could be challenging immediately following an accident, especially if you’ve suffered severe injuries.

Furthermore, some irritants or corrosives may be thick and difficult to remove. As soon as possible, the substance needs to be removed. The appropriate equipment should be available to first responders to treat chemical burns. You can get more burns if you let acidic substances remain on your skin.
