The crash occurred at about 5:37 a.m. on southbound Summit Valley Rd. by Trout Street.

When a red motorcycle and a silver sedan got into an accident, the California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Fire Department went to the scene.

A 23-year-old woman from Fontana was stuck in traffic on southbound Summit Valley Rd. at the same time, trying to make a U-turn into the northbound lane in a silver Hyundai Elantra.

The red Ducati 750SS rider was also going south in the northbound lane, and he hit her car’s driver-side door.

A witness said the rider might have been going at least 50 mph when the accident happened.

The name of the dead rider is kept secret until the next of kin are notified. The CHP said they don’t think alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.

The reason for the crash is still being looked into.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

The Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) says that 5014 people died in motorcycle accidents in 2012. Since the early 1980s, it has steadily gone down, but since 1998, it has steadily gone up.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that in a crash, a motorcyclist is 16 times more likely to get hurt and 35 times more likely to die than a person in a car.

Nearly two-thirds of motorcycle accidents at intersections are caused by drivers’ inability to see. Because of how small a motorcycle is, it is more likely to get into an accident.

Most of California’s roads are listed on motorcycleroads.com’s Top 100 Motorcycle Roads list. More motorcycles are registered in this state than in any other country. In this form, about 800,000 people can ride motorcycles.

In 2017, 15,527 motorcyclists were hurt or killed in accidents across the United States.
