Understanding the most common causes of bicycle accidents can help riders stay safe on the road. Many factors can contribute to a bicycle accident. Here are some of the most common reasons:

  • Distracted driving: Drivers who are not paying attention to the road are more likely to collide with bicyclists, even if the cyclist is following all traffic laws.
  • Poorly maintained roads: Potholes, cracks, and debris in the roadway can cause cyclists to lose control and crash.
  • Driving under the influence: Impaired drivers present a danger to everyone on the road, including bicyclists.
  • Bicyclist error: Although cyclists are required to follow the same traffic laws as motorists, there are certain situations where a cyclist may be at fault for an accident. For example, riding against traffic or running a red light.

By understanding the most common causes of bicycle accidents, riders can be more alert and take steps to avoid dangerous situations.
