Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

Fleeing at the scene of an accident is against the law. Someone is involved in a hit-and-run every day in the United States. At least 2,000 people have been killed in hit-and-run accidents in the United States since 2006.

In a sad development, hit-and-run incidents are on the rise. Between 2009 and 2016, the number of deaths attributed to hit-and-run drivers rose by 7%. The rising number of unintentional traffic deaths is largely attributable to an increase in hit-and-run accidents.

During this period, more people were killed in California than in any other state in hit-and-run accidents. When considering the total number of people killed in traffic accidents across the country in 2012, 3,056 of them occurred in the state of California alone.

It’s terrifying to think that you might get hurt badly in a car crash. The situation may become even more serious if the other driver does not stop and take responsibility.

The intoxication, illegal driving, or fear of arrest increases the likelihood that these people will try to leave the scene of an accident.
