Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
Leaving the scene of an accident is against the law. In the United States, a hit-and-run accident occurs every day. At least 2,000 people have perished in hit-and-run incidents in the US since 2006.
Unfortunately, hit-and-run incidents are happening more frequently. Hit-and-run drivers contributed to a 7% rise in fatalities between 2009 and 2016. The rising number of traffic fatalities that cannot be attributed to intentional acts is significantly influenced by increased hit-and-run accidents.
California had more fatal hit-and-run accidents during this time than any other state. In 2012, 3,056 people died in traffic accidents nationwide, with California accounting for most of those deaths.
Being seriously injured in a car accident is terrifying. The situation could worsen if the at-fault driver does not halt and take responsibility.
Due to their impairment, illegal driving, or fear of arrest, these individuals are more likely to flee the scene of an accident.
