[09-29-2023] Multiple Vehicles Struck by DUI Hit-And-Run Driver on Interstate 680Multiple vehicles were struck after a 53-year-old driver fled from authorities while under the influence on I-680, Contra Costa County, on Friday, September 29, 2023.

The Danville Police Department responded to reports of a reckless driver on a white Toyota Camry around 11:23 a.m. on El Capitan Drive near the Iron Horse Trail.

Officers spotted the car driving north on Camino Ramon and began pursuit. The driver, identified as James R. from Concord, drove into opposing lanes before making a U-turn just before Sycamore Valley Road. He was apprehended after the car drifted off the road, crossed the curb, and stopped on the soft shoulder.

The driver is facing charges of reckless driving, DUI, and allegedly colliding with several vehicles while on I-680. It is currently unknown how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone sustained visible injuries during the multiple collisions.

The authorities have not released further information about the multiple-vehicle hit-and-runs as of the moment.
