[10-04-2022] Mendocino County, CA - Two-Vehicle Crash on Mendocino Coast Injures Both DriversAccording to the California Highway Patrol, two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Mendocino Coast on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

The CHP reported that the crash occurred around 11:25 a.m. on Highway 1 near Gualala.

The CHP reported that a 32-year-old Point Arena woman was operating a 1999 Dodge 2500 full-size pickup truck southbound on Highway 1 at a speed of roughly 50 mph.

The driver of the Dodge permitted the truck to proceed onto the west side of the road near mile marker 3.33 for an unspecified reason before attempting to correct the car but failing.

Back on the roadway, the truck struck the left side of a 2016 Kia Sorento SUV being driven by a 72-year-old Gualala woman at a speed of about 45 mph in the direction of the north.

The Dodge kept going until it ran into a guardrail, at which point it flipped onto its roof. The Kia kept going north until it came upon a dirt embankment.

The Dodge driver was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after sustaining major injuries.

The Kia driver was also taken to Santa Rosa Memorial for treatment of moderate injuries.

The CHP stated that, although the cause of the collision is still being looked into, alcohol and drugs are not considered to be a factor at this time.

The identities of the drivers have not been disclosed.
