[10-12-2022] At Least One Person Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash North of OjaiAt least one person died, and another individual sustained serious injuries after their car crashed along Highway 33 north of Ojai on Wednesday afternoon, October 12.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was first reported at 4:12 p.m. on the 33, also known as Maricopa Highway.

According to CHP data, the crash site is typically located north of Wheeler Springs along the convoluted route through Los Padres National Forest land.
The collision involved just one car. One victim was declared dead at the scene, and at least one other was flown by helicopter with serious injuries to Ventura County Medical Center. The person had severe injuries, according to CHP notes.

Radio traffic suggested that another person may have been hurt despite the fact that as of 5:00 p.m., neither CHP nor Ventura County Fire Department officials had any additional information.

According to officials, the accident site is in a remote location with poor or no cell phone reception.
According to CHP logs, the car was lying on its roof about 10 feet off the road in a ditch.

As CHP officers conducted their investigation and emergency personnel and equipment worked at the scene, the northbound lanes of Highway 33 were closed.
