Fatal Rear-End Collision Statistics
A rear-end collision is one of the most common types of auto accidents. In addition, they pose a severe risk. These collisions are more likely to occur when one car stops and the other moves quickly.
The National Transportation Safety Board states that rear-end collisions cause 2,000 fatalities and 950,000 injuries yearly (NTSB).
Rear-end collisions are among the most frequent car accidents in California. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), 118,029 drivers were hurt, and 405 lost their lives in rear-end collisions in 2011.
Numerous things, such as texting while driving, tailgating recklessly, and drunk driving, can result in rear-end collisions.
The vehicle’s driver in the back is almost always to blame for rear-end collisions because they frequently result from drivers following too closely, driving too quickly, having worn-out brakes or tires, or just not paying attention. These are elements that the rear driver, not the front, can control.
