Bus Accident Statistics

Commercial transportation is governed by different FMCSA and California laws, and buses are no exception. “Common carriers” are companies that move people from one place to another. Bus companies are examples of “common carriers.” In California, commercial drivers must be more careful than other people on the road.

Bus owners and drivers often break traffic laws, which puts people who depend on them at risk of getting hurt or dying.

In 2017, 232 people died in bus accidents, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). This was 1% less than in 2016 when 234 people died in bus accidents.

Between 2007 and 2017, 13% of all bus accidents that killed people in the US were caused by intercity buses. Half of the cars were used to take kids to and from school, and the other half was used to bring people to and from work. In 2017, accidents on American intercity buses killed up to 13 people. This was the safest year for buses since the FMCSA started keeping records.

In 2018, 117 people died in school bus accidents, according to research by the National Safety Council (NSC). During this time, about 277 people died, and 3,939 people were hurt in California.

The research showed that bus and truck accidents in California killed 277 people and hurt 3,939 more.

Most bus accidents happen when people do something wrong. Accidents can happen when bus drivers are careless or don’t follow the rules. Accidents on the road can also happen because of carelessness, like not keeping buses in good shape or not giving drivers enough training.
