What To Do After A Car Accident In St. Helena, CA

A car accident can be stressful, but you must protect yourself and your rights by taking necessary action right away. Following these guidelines can help you after a car accident:

  1. Remain Calm — Continue to monitor the situation and ensure that everyone is safe. Check yourself for injuries before checking everyone else.
  2. Call The Authorities — Call 911 or report your accident to the local police. This would allow them to collect information, record incidents, and keep official records of the incident.
  3. Never Acknowledge Fault — Despite what the law enforcement officers may say, never admit to fault. If you’re speaking with a police officer, keep the conversation focused on what actually happened. Describe the collision as precisely as you can.
  4. Information Exchange — Let the other motorists know your name, phone number, and insurance information. And get the same information from them. Make sure you take pictures of the cars, license plates, and other important information.
  5. Seek Medical Attention — Consult your primary care physician immediately or visit a nearby hospital if your injuries need urgent care. Tests and scans can detect injuries that aren’t yet manifesting symptoms.
  6. Inform Your Insurance Company — Insurance companies in California usually require accident notifications by certain dates. If you have been in a crash, call their hotline and follow the instructions provided by the agent.
  7. Make A File — Documents related to the accident should be organized. Your file should contain copies of the police report, medical bills, the other driver’s information, injury treatment plans, and any other documentation you’ve gathered.
  8. Talk To Insurance Adjusters — In the aftermath of an accident, the insurance adjuster of the other party may contact you. Keep your disclosures to a minimum. Consult a car accident attorney before providing a statement or accepting a settlement offer.
  9. Give Our Car Accident Attorneys A Call At (888) 488-1391 — You can discuss your vehicle accident with us without risk or obligation. As your California car accident attorneys, we will help you determine whether your case has merit, assist you in talking with insurance companies, and assist you in filing a personal injury claim if necessary.
