Fatal Train Accident Statistics

The most efficient means of transportation are trains. The safety of passengers and employees depends on a number of factors, such as the skill of the conductors and the frequency of necessary repairs. These individuals pose a threat due to their potential for carelessness or inappropriate use of shortcuts.

As reported by the National Transportation Safety Board, each and every two hours, a person or their vehicle is hit by a train. Every year, train accidents kill more than a thousand people. About 2,300 people were injured, and 600 were killed as a result of this.

Unsafe crossings, out-of-date or absent safety features, and the lack of warning systems for motorists account for fifty percent of all fatal train accidents.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, more pedestrians are killed by trains than by cars.

Roughly 7,200 people have perished in train accidents in the United States since 1997. In recent years, pedestrians struck by trains have surpassed all other causes as the leading killer along America’s railroads.

Most train accidents are caused by derailment, deteriorating tracks, disregard for safety regulations, lax security, and other forms of carelessness.
