[10-22-2023] San Diego County, CA – 37-Year-Old Mexican National Died, One Person Injured After Pedestrian vs Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5

A Mexican national died, and one pedestrian was injured following a multi-vehicle collision in downtown San Diego on Sunday night, October 22, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the middle lanes of north Interstate 5, just south of State Route 16.

A white BMW 428i struck the 37-year-old Mexican and another pedestrian. The victims and two others reportedly stood in the lane after leaving their disabled Nissan Versa, which initially struck a Nissan Altima blocking the middle lanes.

Two severely injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where the Mexican later succumbed to his injuries. There was no mention of whether the other vehicles’ occupants were injured.

The current conditions of the victims were unknown. The crash shut down northbound interstate lanes for nearly two and a half hours.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be involved in this crash as investigations continued. Those with information are urged to contact the police.
