Thousand Oaks Dog Bite Injury Statistics

Dog attacks can take many forms, such as bites, scratches, and knockdowns. Dog bites occur when a dog physically hurts a person by biting them. Bites can result in infection, deformity, temporary or permanent impairment, or even death.

More than 4.5 million people in the United States are attacked by dogs every year, and more than 800,000 of them need medical attention for dog bites, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At least 50% of bite victims are children.

Each state has its own set of laws governing dog attacks. Section 3342 of the California Penal Code describes the legal processes that must take place in dog bite cases. According to this clause, the dog’s owner is responsible for any losses a person incurs due to a dog bite in a public or private setting where the person was lawfully present.

California had the most fatalities from dog bites in 2019 (9). Fifteen children and 21 adults died in 36 dog attacks in 2018.

People should use caution when petting other dogs because of how frequently dogs bite. Although some dogs still have the potential to attack when not provoked, it is best to keep your cool and avoid physical contact.
