[11-05-2022] Kern County, CA – Two Killed and Multiple Injured Following Two-Vehicle Collision on Interstate 5

Two people were killed, and multiple were injured after a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 Saturday afternoon, November 5, 2022.

The fatal crash transpired around 3:53 p.m. on the southbound portion near Kern County and Kings County border.

When authorities arrived on the scene, an Infinity was moving quickly in the first lane alongside a Nissan, and a third car was between the two vehicles.

The Infinity attempted to overtake the third vehicle as it entered the second lane.

The Infinity attempted to re-enter the number 1 lane in front of the additional vehicle and behind the Nissan as it continued to travel quickly in the number 2 lane.

According to the police, the Nissan’s rear end and the front of the Infinity collided due to the Nissan traveling at high speed.

Authorities report that the front of the Infinity struck the back of the Nissan. Due to the collision, both vehicles overturned into a dirt field and were knocked off the road.

The driver of the Infinity and the front right passenger was fatally injured after being ejected.

Both of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

All four Nissan occupants sustained minor injuries, including two other passengers who also sustained minor wounds.

It was confirmed that neither of the ejected passengers was wearing a seatbelt.

Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
