[11-06-2022] Ventura County, CA – Fiery Head-On Collision Killed Five People near Point Mugu Rock

The California Highway Patrol reported that five people were killed in a fiery head-on collision between two vehicles in Point Mugu on Sunday morning, November 6, 2022.

According to the officials, the crash occurred just before 4:30 a.m. on Pacific Coast Highway north of the famous landmark Point Mugu Rock on State Route 1.

The collision involved a 2020 sedan heading north with one occupant and a 2011 sports utility vehicle heading south with four occupants. It is unclear which, but one of the cars crossed the center lines into the opposing traffic lane before colliding head-on with the other.

The CHP said the collision sent the sedan to the northbound lanes of traffic facing the wrong way and the SUV to the southbound lane also facing the wrong direction. Both were in flames when the responders arrived.

Capt. Brian McGrath of Ventura County Fire Department said all five people were declared dead on the spot. They were removed from the vehicles just after 9:00 a.m. No one was reportedly ejected during the crash.

The casualties include the lone male driver of the sedan and the four occupants of the SUV. Their identities were withheld while the families were notified.

PCH was shut down in both directions as the authorities conducted their investigation. It is unclear what caused the collision, including whether alcohol or drug was a factor.

An official report from CHP indicated that the lanes were reopened at around 4 p.m.
