Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

America has some of the world’s most congested roads. More than 280 million vehicles and 227.5 million drivers are estimated to be on the road across the country.

In the United States, there are an estimated 6 million car accidents each year. More than 38,000 people are killed in traffic accidents every year in the United States.

California is one of the states with the most traffic accidents each year. Most accidents are caused by avoidable human factors, such as distracted driving, speeding, traffic violations, drunk driving, following too close, and more. Car accidents are also caused by bad weather and slick roads but to a lesser extent.

Only one type of automotive accident is multi-vehicle. This type of accident occurs when three or more vehicles collide. There is a high probability that they result from a “chain-reaction” crash, in which one vehicle collides with another, setting off a cascade of collisions.
