Bicycle Accident Statistics
More and more Americans are choosing bicycles for recreation, transportation, and physical fitness. The country may have rules meant to safeguard bicycles, but unfortunately, they could be more foolproof.
Over 800 bicyclists lost their lives in accidents across the country last year. More persons have perished, despite the fact that there have been fewer bicycle accidents (by 12%) since 2001. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 712 cyclists were murdered by motor vehicles in 2012, while another 377 died for other reasons.
According to the latest available data, California has the highest rate of fatalities associated with bicycle use in the United States. In 2017, 145 cyclists were murdered, and 11,116 were injured in California, according to the National Bicycle Safety Foundation.
There are a few common dangers that riders face while out and about. Motorists frequently ignore the rights of cyclists and ride dangerously close to them. This raises the risk of injury.
People frequently break road rules, including speeding, running red lights and stop signs, and not paying enough attention because they fail to yield the right of way. A horrible bicycle collision may also be caused by a drunk or reckless driver.
