Fatal Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Motorcycle accidents are terrible catastrophic accidents that almost always cause more harm to the rider than to the other party. Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to collisions and can easily sustain catastrophic and fatal injuries.

California is not a safe place for motorcycle riders. In 2017, over 500 motorcyclists were killed, and over 15,500 were injured in California. The high numbers are unsurprising, given that California has over 800,000 motorcycle owners.

Los Angeles also has an ideal climate for motorcycle riding. We enjoy sunshine all year long, and our temperate climate means riders don’t face seasonal weather challenges. Without much rain, snow, or ice, motorcyclists can usually ride all year long.

Unfortunately, this means that there are a lot of motorcycles on the road all year long. Combined with our infamous L.A. traffic, this can be a recipe for disaster. Motorcyclists are at an increased risk of being involved in an accident in heavy traffic.

Some common reasons why motorcycle accidents occur are lane splitting, unsafe turns, speeding, and intoxicated driving.
