One unidentified pedestrian was injured after a suspected DUI crash outside a store in Modesto on Sunday morning, November 14, 2021.

[11-14-2021] Stanislaus County, CA - Pedestrian Hurt After a Suspected DUI Crash in ModestoThe major crash transpired at around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Oakdale Road and Sylvan Avenue in Modesto.

The male pedestrian was standing outside a Stop n Save shop when he was suddenly struck by a car that later crashed into a gas station.

Due to the severity of the impact, the victim was trapped in front of the wall when the car overturned into him. The vehicle then caught on fire while the driver was trapped inside. Emergency personnel extricated the driver and the pedestrian with a hydraulic extrication tool.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was rushed to an area hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the driver, who was later identified as 33-year-old Christopher R., sustained minor injuries.

Authorities later determined that the 33-year-old driver was under the influence at the time of the accident. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
