[11-14-2022] Alpine County, CA - 33-Year-Old Woman Killed, Two Children Injured in Picketts Junction Car AccidentThe California Highway Patrol reported that a 33-year-old woman was killed and two children were injured in a car crash at Picketts Junction on Monday morning, November 14, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 4:25 a.m. on Highway 89, approaching Picketts Junction.

The woman from Fair Oaks was traveling on a 2019 Hyundai Elantra south on Highway 89 when she ran into a boulder on the opposite side after driving through the junction.

The driver reportedly wasn’t able to correctly navigate the roadway and headed straight toward Burnside Lake.

Inside the vehicle were a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy who suffered moderate and severe injuries. They were airlifted by a helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center.

The California Highway Patrol is looking into the crash.

The result was a 21.7% increase in fatalities per vehicle mile driven, an 8.5% increase in deaths per mile traveled, and a 7.9% increase in fatalities per mile traveled.
