Pedestrian Accident Statistics
In recent years, the number of pedestrian fatalities and injuries has increased across the country, which is a trend that appears to continue.
Despite a 14% decline in road fatalities between 2007 and 2016, the GHSA reports a 27% increase in pedestrian fatalities over that time period.
As a result of pedestrian accidents, there were 5,977 pedestrian deaths in the United States in 2016. At the end of that year, a prediction was made that 88 people would die per minute. In 2017, pedestrian injuries resulted in the treatment of at least 137,000 people in hospital emergency departments.
There were 893 pedestrian fatalities and approximately 14,000 injuries in California in 2012. Some statistics place this state at the top for pedestrian deaths and injuries.
It’s a safe bet to say that pedestrians will be hurt if cars don’t yield to them or if they stop abruptly. You should get the advice of a lawyer with experience in the relevant field if you intend to pursue legal action.
