Fatal Big Rig Accident Statistics

Because trucking companies in the United States move billions of dollars worth of commodities each year, semi-trucks play a vital role in the economy. Because of this, the presence of semi-trucks on the road increases the likelihood of an accident.

Accidents involving semi-trucks are the deadliest kind. Due to the enormous size of big rigs, smaller vehicles are unable to drive past them.

Since 2009, there has been a thirty percent increase in the number of truck-related fatalities, according to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation. The carelessness of drivers of large trucks contributed to 4,102 deaths from traffic accidents in 2017.

The majority of fatalities and injuries in California are caused by large vehicles. 3,316 auto accidents resulted in the deaths of 3,606 people in 2019. Almost half of the roughly 300 people who lost their lives in truck accidents were passengers in other vehicles.
