[11-20-2022] Head-On Collision Due to DUI Driver Kills One on Interstate 8The CHP said one person was killed following a head-on collision involving a DUI driver in Imperial on Sunday evening, November 20, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 5:53 p.m. on Interstate 8 west of Dunaway Road.

A 2022 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 24-year-old male San Marcos resident was traveling west on I-8, while a 2020 Kia Forte driven by a 20-year-old female Rahway, NJ resident was eastbound on the same road.

The Toyota driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle and entered the median, crashing with the Kia.

The Kia driver sustained major injuries and died. The body was removed from the site by the Imperial County Coroner’s Office. The victim’s identity was not released until the family was notified.

The Toyota driver was seriously injured but was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center via Mercy Air. He was taken into custody for DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
