Fatal DUI Accident Statistics

When someone drives after taking alcohol or drugs, their risk of being in an accident that ends in serious or fatal injuries is significantly increased.

About 10,000 individuals per year die as a direct result of drunk driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Contrarily, drug usage, whether illicit or prescribed, is a factor in around 18% of fatal car accidents.

In California, drunk driving is the main contributor to the state’s 2,000 annual fatalities and 30,000 annual injuries. Depending on the type of vehicle being driven and the age of the driver, driving under the influence is handled differently.

When driving after drinking, a driver’s vision, decision-making, and reaction times all considerably suffer. They take to California’s dangerous freeways, endangering the lives of other motorists and pedestrians.
