Bicycle Accident Statistics

No matter how many laws there are to protect bicycles in the United States, accidents will still happen. More than 800 cyclists were killed in the country in 2018. Most of these deaths occurred in California.

The number of reported bicycle accidents fell by 50,000 in the United States in 2018. In 2001, the death toll in bicycle accidents in the nation increased, despite a 12% decrease in those accidents.

According to data published by the National Center for Health Statistics, 372 cyclists died of unexplained causes, while 712 were killed when they were hit by autos.

Bicycle-related fatalities are more common in California than in any other state in the country, with a rate of 4.4 per 100,000 people. In 2017, 145 bicyclists were killed and 11,116 were wounded in California, according to the National Bicycle Safety Foundation.

Normal riding presents a few risks. People in vehicles routinely disobey traffic laws and drive perilously close to motorcyclists, putting the lives of both groups in jeopardy. An increase in possible harm or even fatality results from this.
