[12-10-2022] Teenager Killed in Solo Car Crash by Suspected DUI Driver in Morro BayAuthorities said a 16-year-old teenager was killed in a solo car crash in Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo County, on Saturday morning, December 10, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol said the fatal crash occurred before 12:00 p.m. on Highway 41 south of Bear Ridge Road.

The driver, 19-year-old Orion M., and the 16-year-old passenger, both from Atascadero, were traveling south on the highway at a speed of about 55 mph in a 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Their vehicle reportedly hydroplaned upon entering a right-hand curve. It then toppled after smashing into a hillside.

The passenger was declared dead on the spot after being ejected from the car for not wearing a seatbelt. His identity has not been disclosed.

According to a CHP report, the driver was not hurt and was taken into custody. They claim that alcohol may have had a role in the collision as the investigation continued.
