[12-10-2022] One Fatally Struck After Suspected DUI Crash on San Mateo-Hayward BridgeA suspected DUI driver fatally struck one person in San Mateo late Saturday night, December 10, 2022.

The deadly collision reportedly occurred around 11:45 p.m. close to eastbound Highway 92.

Reports state the drunk driver hit his black Cadillac Escalade into a black Hyundai Elantra, which had been involved in an earlier non-injury crash on the bridge’s eastbound lanes.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced the Elantra driver dead on the scene.

Meanwhile, the Escalade driver and his female passenger were rushed to Stanford Hospital with critical injuries.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence.

Authorities shut the eastbound lanes of the bridge until around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
