One unidentified person was injured after a bicycle crash in El Cerrito on Monday evening, December 13, 2021.
The accident transpired at approximately 5:05 p.m. on University Avenue near College Avenue in El Cerrito.
The bicycle rider was heading west in a bike lane when he was suddenly struck by a 21-year-old driver who merged to the left to pass a slower vehicle.
The driver that struck the bicycle rider remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. He was uninjured in the crash.
Meanwhile, the bicycle rider sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident. He was immediately taken to an area hospital for treatment.
It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol were considered factors in the accident. The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed.
The San Diego Police Department’s traffic division is further investigating the cause of the accident.
