Reckless Driving Accident Statistics

Accidents, road rage, and many annual deadly highway accidents in the United States can all be attributed to reckless driving. It is defined by the National Highway Traffic Safety

Administration as the intentional and willful violation of traffic laws with the intent to endanger other people or property.

Although quantifying reckless driving is difficult, a 2009 AAA study found that between 2003 and 2007, reckless driving contributed to 56% of fatal incidents. The Fatal Accident Reporting System maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that speeding is the leading cause of fatal accidents.

In the state of California, driving recklessly is treated as a major offense. The terms “reckless driving,” “careless driving,” and “improper driving” are often used interchangeably with “driving.” Call them what you want, but they cause more fatal car accidents.

Aggressive or careless drivers endanger the lives of others without reason. It’s not okay when reckless drivers hurt other people. The negligent drivers should be held liable for the injuries and deaths they caused.
