Fatal Truck Collision Statistics

The US Department of Transportation reports that almost 4,000 tractor-trailer collisions resulted in fatalities in 2015.

The percentage of fatalities in semi-truck collisions increased by a startling 22% between 2009 and 2015. In 2015, one out of every ten traffic deaths involved a tractor-trailer.

Huge commercial trucks, called “big rigs,” dominate American highways. This truck is also referred to as a big rig, 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer, and semi-trailer.

Some of the deadliest collisions on American highways and roads involve large trucks. Because of the enormous size difference between tractor-trailers and passenger automobiles, accidents involving large rigs frequently result in more fatalities than other traffic mishaps.

When examining 18-wheeler incidents, several factors must be examined. Loss of truck control, tire blowouts, incapacitating or non-capacitating vehicle difficulties, excessive speed, lane drifting, inappropriate truck maneuvering, and driver fatigue are the most typical causes of severe truck accidents.
