[12-20-2022] Three-Vehicle Collision in Bakersfield Hospitalizes Three including 3-Year-Old ChildThree people, including a toddler ejected from the car, were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision on Tuesday afternoon, December 20, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the three-vehicle crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 65 and James Road.

Initial investigation revealed that 28-year-old Kyle S. from Bakersfield was traveling southbound on the highway in a Dodge Ram when he started making a left turn as he reached the junction at James Road.

He drove into the path of 40-year-old Jimmy P. from Porterville, driving a Chevrolet Silverado and carrying a trailer, heading north at roughly 54 mph.

The two vehicles crashed head-on at the intersection. The initial crash made the Silverado strike a Toyota Sienna driven by 72-year-old Jesus R. from Bakersfield at a stop sign west of James Road.

A 3-year-old child was riding in the Silverado but was not properly restrained in a car seat that was also not correctly secured. The child was thrown out the window, still fastened to the car seat.

The child sustained a shattered rib and was sent to Kern Medical. The drivers of Dodge Ram and Toyota were also sent to the same hospital for receiving minor injuries.
