[12-23-2021] Fresno County, CA – Officer Injured After a DUI Crash on Shaw and El Capitan Avenues

A police officer was hurt after a traffic crash involving a suspected DUI driver in Shaw Avenues on Thursday night, December 23, 2021.

[12-23-2021] Fresno County, CA - Officer Injured After a DUI Crash on Shaw and El Capitan AvenuesAccording to the initial reports from local authorities, the crash happened on Shaw Avenue near El Capitan Avenue at around 9:00 p.m.

The officer was blocking the No. 3 lane on westbound Shaw Avenue. He was waiting for city workers to fill in a large pothole that had caused several flat tires.

Unfortunately, he was rear-ended by a westbound vehicle. The officer sustained moderate injuries in the crash. He was immediately taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The driver that struck the officer was identified as 32-year-old Valentin U. He was arrested on DUI-related charges and driving with a suspended license.

An active investigation of the crash is currently underway.
