[12-25-2022] Fresno County, CA – Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Collision Involving Semi-Truck Near Highway 198

A suspected DUI driver was arrested after hitting a semi-truck in Fresno County early Sunday morning, December 25, 2022.

Reports confirmed that the crash transpired around 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 5 near Highway 198 in Coalinga.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old male in a compact automobile stopped on the interstate’s right shoulder and abruptly merged onto Interstate 5.

A semi-truck swerved to avoid crashing with the sedan, but the two collided, and the semi-truck flipped.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries.

After the 30-year-old suspect fled the area, deputies were called to assist.

According to authorities, he broke into the I-5 grocery market close to the 76 gas station on Highway 198.

He allegedly tried to set fire to the store, but officers stopped him and took him into custody.

Drugs are suspected of having caused the crash.
